Joint Replacement
Joint replacement surgery is a common and successful procedure in orthopaedic surgery. As the active populace ages, primary joint replacement and revision replacement arthroplasty surgery is expected to continue to increase in the coming years. The joint replacement service at Tulane is focused primarily on disorders of hips and knees. Although joint replacement is the cornerstone of surgical management, other operative as well as non-operative modalities are frequently employed.
Residents progress from first assistant to primary surgeon during the five year program. A monthly Tulane Comprehensive Arthritis Program conference helps give residents in-depth experience with diagnosing and treating a wide variety of diseases and injuries of musculoskeletal system. Participation from other medical specialties and allied health professionals help expand the scope and understanding needed for complete care. Our residents evaluate and help treat patients in our clinic, which includes pre and post operative care.
